The Horror, The Horror

Yesterday afternoon, Matt, Conor, Eoghen, Rollie, and I stared a post-modern Medusa in the face and vanquished her.

For months now, Kentucky Fried Chicken has been running ads for their "KFC Bowls". The bowls consist of mashed potatoes, corn, fried chicken bits, cheese, and gravy mixed together. After seeing that ad a couple of nights ago, we all got to talking, and decided to act as undercover corporate police to see if KFC had overstepped its bounds with this one. "Well," I said, "it has to be edible, and it has to appeal to somebody, or else they wouldn't be able to sell or market it." With that, thought, we loaded up "The Champagne Warrior", and headed to the only KFC in town.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but has that KFC not been there for as long as anyone can remember? I've been in this town for almost twenty years, and I can't remember it not being there.

Anyway, we made it to KFC, and all five of us lined up at the counter. Each of us ordered the "KFC Bowl Value Meal" which came to a total of $5.35 and included the bowl itself and a drink. My sweet tea tasted the way the grass smells after it rains. It's a good smell, but a bad taste. "Earthen" is never a good way to describe the aftertaste of anything.

We all sat down, and took a good look at what had been placed before us.

They even gave us sporks to eat with.

Rollie poured on the salt and pepper.

Matt garnished his with cheese, and then we all dug-in.

Here's what I can say about the "KFC Bowl" that I ate: I didn't hate it. That's the only way I can describe the concoction. As horrendous as the ads for it make it look, it's not that bad. It's bad, just not that bad. Would I eat it again? No. Do I regret eating it? No.

So, there you go.

... and we all got "happy plates".
