Hey Kids, It's

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Here are some hot 'n tasty nuggs of good feeling for you, the starved masses. Included are an ass-load of nice covers, and some originals. Enjoy!

Bob Dylan and George Harrison
- Song to Woody

This is an EXCELLENT song. Dylan's tribute to the legendary Woody Guthrie, performed with George Harrison, nonetheless. I'd argue for it to be included in Dylan's top 10, even though that's impossible. The best songs of Dylan's career couldn't possibly be condensed into only ten. Anyway, here's a sample lyric:

"Hey, hey, Woody I wrote you a song. 'Bout a funny ol' world that's comin' along. Seems sick and it's hungry and it's tired and it's torn. It seems to be dying, yet it's hardly been born."

Drve-By Truckers
- Hey Ya!

This is an excellent cover. The sound quality is so-so, but it's still good. I'm especially fond of the way DBT sings the chorus. As Bonnaroo draws near, I rejoice... near.

The Caterpillars of the Community- Miss Molly

Auburn natives jamming out to a classic. Support local music... by stealing it off the internet! Jay Kay ;)

John Pizzarelli- Get Back

A happenin' big band jazz cover of an always enjoyable Beatles tune.

Dread Zeppelin- Heartbreaker (At the End of Lonely Street)

An fantabulous mixmatch of two fantabulous songs. I found these guys by accident one night. Turns out they are fucking nuts live. The lead singer dresses up like Elvis and convulses wildly about the stage while performing Led Zeppelin songs.

Leon Russell- Jambalaya (On the Bayou)

My dad has been into this guy forever. He almost creamed his pants when he found Leon Russell's Hank Wilson's Back on CD back in the early 90's. A lot of the songs on the album, like this one, are Hank Williams covers. Almost beats the original.

Keller Williams- Midnight Rider, Under Pressure, Illegal Smile, and Lightning (With String Cheese Incident)

A kouple of kool Keller kovers. I'm especially fond of the mouth-trumpeting at the end of Keller's cover of the John Prine Classic, "Illegal Smile".

I also included the song "Lightning" from The Keller Williams Incident album, Breathe. Sunday night I actually saw lightning hit the road in front of me while driving down Wright's Mill Road. I didn't even realize what had happened until I heard the thunder, and for the first time in my life I had a panasonic experience. Every sound possible in the universe entered my ears at that moment. In other words, it was FUCKING LOUD.

Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie- Dizzy Atmosphere

An awesome Jazz number from the Dizz 'N Bird performance at Carnegie Hall. The MP3 file tells me that it happened in 1947, but I really doubt it. I actually downloaded this tune because it was poorly labeled, and I thought that it was an Atmosphere song, but I wasn't let down at all by my mistake.

Twinemen- The Definition of Truth

David Grubbs- Windchimes

This song is off of a really good CD called Smiling Pets. It's a compilation of various artists performing Beach Boys songs. Excellentay.

Van Morrison- Just Like a Woman

Yes!

The Jerry Garcia Band- Mississippi Moon and Catfish John

Believe it or not, Jerry could rock out just as well by himself.

Lastly, I give you the latest additions to the Bonnaroo roster:

The Word

Joyful Sounds and I'll Fly Away

Well, there they are.

"Sharpen your boot, and bludgeon yer eye/
The Blarney Stone brings a tear to me eye"

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
