A
String Cheese Incident, that is.
A couple of weeks back, I won two free SCI tickets from
Wildman Steve on
99.9. Tuesday I went to the
BJCC Concert Hall in Birmingham to go see the show.
I made the short drive up to the 'Ham from Montevallo. When I arrived, I realized that there was a really good lot scene going on in the parking lot located under an overpass bridge next to the venue. It had all the looks and smells of
Bonnaroo. I welcomed it with open arms since I have been so Bonnaroo starved since it ended almost five months ago.
I met up with
Richard,
Eileen, and
Ian who were all as hyped about the show as I was. I picked up a free bag of chips, and a bible from the
Grilled Cheese Wagon.
After noodling about for far too long in the parking lot, we made our way inside. Eileen and Ian went to their designated seating area, and Richard and I went to ours. We grabbed two seats on the front row of the "Grand Tier" a.k.a the balcony. This is actually one of the best seats in my opinion. This is simply for the fact that you have an unobstructed view of the stage, so you can sit down when you feel like it. Another benefit is that if you take pictures during the show, you can simply zoom in, and balance the camera on the railing and it wont move, thus,
less blurry pictures.

Blur isn't completely unavoidable with my system, but pretty damn close.

Somebody stole my orange hat idea. Luckily it was only one person at the dead center of the picture.

During the entire course of the show, this large hookah was positioned in the center of a circle of cushions at the front of the stage. I was really wanting someone to hop on stage and load it up. Either that, or I'd have enjoyed watching someone try to steal it. At any rate, neither occurred.

Cheese played for a little over two hours.

REALLY liked the Bob Dylan cover ("Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues").

Overall, it was a damn good show; but it didn't hold a candle to
The Roots or
Victor Wooten.
