Two Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Richard and Rivers Go To Old Bryce

Today, after all of my classes let out, I took a trip up to T-Town to visit Richard, and to finally visit Alabama Bryce Hospital for the Insane.

I first went up to Richard's dorm where, to my surprise, S.J. Pohuski was absent. I took this opportunity to give you all an idea of how small this guy's TV is, because you may not have taken Richard's word for it:

**Hand for scale**

On the way out I had to take a picture of this sign on somebody's door, just so everyone will know that I was actually in Tuscaloosa.

After leaving Ye Olde Burke Hall, it was off to Bryce, which we now had Mapquested, so we went right to it. No searching this time.

Let me just start off by saying this: IT WAS FUCKED UP

More than just a little fucked up, it was really fucked up.

You begin the experience driving up this long Live Oak-lined driveway.

There are sketchy water towers and large overgrown grassy fields.

Then, the building comes into view.

It looks truly scary just from the outside:

All of the windows have been broken, and the building closely resembles my dorm.

The entrance has obscene and Satanic graffiti all over it. It's a fitting welcome to what was about to come.

Richard and I cautiously entered the main lobby/reception area.

We decided to get the basement over with first because in all movies, the basement is where all the crazy shit happens. We didn't want a haint to catch us off guard, so we decended down this pitch black flight of stairs while we were still on edge.

That's where we found the old cafeteria area, and what looked like the set of a bad horror movie:

Satanists are lame.

Fuck 62 Jewz? I should also add that Satanists are lame in addition to being lame.

Satanists are also stupid. It's "Gluttony" you stupid lowlife fuck, not "Glutney". Like I said Satanists, or probably in this case wanna-be Satanists, are lame, lame, and stupid.

Ah yes, the attic. This was a very scary part of the adventure, not because of the fear of ghosts or crackheads, but due to the fear of asbestos in the insulation.

An "Old Skool" Mountain Dew can in the linen closet.

"The Childrens' Ward". It was in this area that Richard and I stopped for a moment and listened. We heard a faint clanking sound coming from parts unknown in the hospital. It was unsettling, to say the least.

Sitting rooms on the second and third floors

Remnants of a fire that someone set inside the hospital.

Bryce Bathrooms

Richard checks out the medication and supply room. (The shelves are labeled with the names of different medications and various supplies)

Some looney's room.

Third floor rec room I believe.

First floor rec room. I can't really explain the black blur on the right. There was nothing there when I took the picture. Scary stuff.

After exploring the main building, Richard and I went over the an adjacent building:

We're still not exactly sure what it is, but we're sure it's not in use anymore, and it's almost as fucked up as the main building.

This other building is HUGE, and besides the fact that every piece of glass in it is broken, it looks like a pretty modern hospital.

We managed to lodge a large rock in a pane of plastic-coated shatter-resistant glass. ROXXXIN'

We did our teenage duty and destroyed stuff. By the way, this antiseptic stuff smells like absolute shit.

In one room we found this large metal mamogram/x-ray/crazy light thing. It was sort of scary in itself.

Sammy Coggins!!!

The bathroom of the "new" building.

In one room we found syrenges WITH NEEDLES, viles of blood, sanitary sponges, and I-V Tubes.

After we got our bio-hazard fix for the day, we decided to check out...

... this old factory thing behind the main building at Bryce.

I still have no idea what this place might have been used for. My best guess is a power plant.

There was still coal in the burners.

And as one last thing to see before we left, someone had sacrificed a bird of prey of some kind. "Do you see a head? Do you see a head? I don't see a head" said Richard. Crazy shit.

With that, Richard and I left what I can honestly claim to be THE MOST FUCKED UP PLACE THAT I'VE EVER BEEN TO.

We headed back to Richard's dorm. This time Pohuski was there. He still sucks.

After a brief trip to the Black Warrior Riverwalk Park, I headed back to Montevallo.

Ivan post soon enough, if anyone still cares about it.

I'll be back in Auburn... well, later today I guess it is now.
