This past Sunday I went to Atlanta with my mom and one of her friends to go and see the
Chihuly in the Garden exhibit at the
Atlanta Botanical Garden. Now, in case you don't know,
Dale Chihuly is a world renowned glass blower. If you've been to the
J.C. Smith Museum of Art in Auburn, Chihuly is the one who did the
big chandelier in the lobby that looks like a huge nugget of marijuana.
Anyway, he was commissioned by the Atlanta Botanical Garden to do a bunch of pieces that they could incorporate with the plants in the garden for an exhibit. Well, I checked it out on Sunday and was THOROUGHLY impressed.
The only shitty part was that my mom woke me up at 8:30 in order to beat "the church crowd" there. Fortunately, it paid off big when we finally got there:
There were plenty of other things there to hold my attention, not that the Chihuly pieces weren't doing a good job by themselves
Little Birdy.
A waterfall with three faces of Buddha behind it.
Butterflies, duh.
What an unfortunate looking plant.
I'm rather fond of these two pictures of the Atlanta skyline and a fir tree.
Pan, the goatboy
These were all taken in the children's garden:
An elderly European man makes his way out of the mouth of a huge cartoon fish.
This is supposed to be Chihuly.
I think he's much uglier than that.
This is Peter Rabbit's house. Bullshit I say. I saw no rabbits anywhere.
The gnome zone.
"The Guardian of the Garden"
Some random guy.
All-in-all it was a great exhibit. I encourage anyone with a little time, and some gas money to burn, to go and check it out. The exhibit, due to its popularity, has been extended until New Year's Day.
